i work in airport operations at teterboro. the weather is shit tonight so there isnt much of a view tonight. normally i have a pretty nice view of the city but not so much today

it will be busy-ish for the next hour or so (maybe 10 operations per hour) then it will die off to maybe 1 or 2 movements per hour until around 6am. day shift can get over 30 arrivals and 30 departures per hour mid week.

why does it suck? i get the jet noise can be irritating but the airport and faa are always working on their noise abatement programs to mitigate that.

The school would turn the heat/air off on the weekends when we were there and wouldn’t ever turn the lights off, so sleeping on the cafeteria floor pretty well sucked. Plus I’m sure it was full of roaches. And a plane overshot (or totally missed?) the runway and hit the school once. And we weren't allowed to drive anywhere for food so our only escape from the rehearsal food was a gas station and one little fast food restaurant. Granted this was 12ish years ago but I doubt it has changed much.

nah. each desk has 2 screens one is for internet/excel etc while the other shows our arrival schedule and our logging system. overhead we have 4 screens for weather, our in pavement monitoring system, a few cameras around the airport, and a tracking screen. plus a radio stack and a computer for the weather broadcast.

Then I think the crash you’re thinking of is the infamous strawberry crash. basically an overloaded aircraft wasn’t able to lift off the ground on takeoff and overran the runway. no fatalities but definitely a pretty bad crash. the aircraft was over its max takeoff weight and had its center of gravity well forward of the maximum limit. they are the reason why 3 of 4 runways here have 1000ft long engineered concrete arresting systems.

Little story, I was trying to fly to Albuquerque once when they put the airport on a ground stop for heavy fog. After circling for about 20 minutes we were low on fuel and had to land at Santa Fe in a plane that couldn’t take off from that runway when full. But since Frontier didn’t operate there they had no gate crew and couldn’t let us off the plane (or pay to refuel it). Total cluster, but pretty funny since I wasn’t in any sort of hurry.

I’ve usually started my night shift by now, but had graduation things to do (not me, my Mom got her BFA). But I’ll be there soon, then NIGHT SHIFT PARTY.
